Last minute Changes
I changed colleges two weeks before I was supposed to move-in to the one I was committed to. I have goals which I to become a personal stylist, I want to work on a tour. I also am a singer and I want to be an actor. It was hard finding a college that could offer all three subjects. I found two.
One where I didn't think I was smart enough to get into so I never applied, and the other where I didn't have to give my SAT score and the selectivity is very low.
Columbia College Chicago is the school that I rejected. Why? I found myself not fitting in and only choosing the school because others chose it for me.
Explanation:
When going to a colleges admitted students day or visiting, I recommend going there by yourself. Even though the colleges often separate the parents from the new class, it's like being in daycare upstairs but your parents work upstairs so if anything goes wrong you always have someone to talk to. When I went to my school at the time by myself I had some problems with fitting in which everyone does. I would expect to feel not apart of a group when they already have connections/friendships. When people are still exchanging phone numbers and finding new people I would have loved to be apart of that but I couldn't find it.
It was then I was thinking that is it worth going to this college if I am not going to feel apart of anything but the staff. I didn't want another four years of high school where I am better friends with the teachers than the students.
So why did I wait so long to apply? The cost of the other tuition. It is double than the intuition cost. So I spent a week going over if I could double minor at Columbia College Chicago. I couldn't do it without taking an extra semester that I would have to pay all 15+K out of my pocket.
If I went to Seattle(I will let you guys see my dorm room once I move in) then I could be able to double minor. So I applied to the school and I got in. I told my roommates that I had got accepted to my first choice and I wouldn't be attending Columbia College Chicago. Before letting part of the world know that I am not going to Chicago. I looked up which would be the better option career-wise. Going into music it would be splendid, going into fashion it is not good; there are no corporate offices for fashion students in Chicago, going for acting is also good but the Flash doesn't record there and shows like Shameless record mainly in Cali. Being on the west coast has so many benefits. One it's a closer flight to auditions in LA, for music, there are coffee shops on every corner, not just Starbucks. Lastly, Nordstroms Corporate office is right there.
Getting accepted I took a look at the study abroad programs and they are better. I called the school and asked the normal questions it took a bit to realize that I was talking to a student and I felt 100% more accepted than I did when I would talk to the students at Columbia College Chicago. And I am only talking about texting other students.
With all that being said my advise for you is
One: Go to the school by yourself at least once just to see how you feel without the comfort of your parents "being in the other room"
Two: If you are paying for school you should be able to do everything you want and get everything from that College
Three: Don't choose a school just because others can see you going there. If you can't see yourself going there don't go.
PSA to all College(Uni)Kids: Remember this is the start of your life, not theirs.
